”…if it should be possible to close into some kind of a vessel a very large quantity of such fire particles, it would be possible to sail on the clouds as easily as we sail on the sea, and to visit the Salamanders in their aerial abodes,…”
[Anatole France: ”The Queen Pedauque”]
”After you had passed several courts you came to the centre, wherein you might behold the constable himself in his own lodgings, which had windows fronting to each avenue, and ports to sally out upon all occasions of prey or defence. In this mansion he had for some time dwelt in peace and plenty, without danger to his person by swallows from above, or to his palace by brooms from below; when it was the pleasure of fortune to conduct thither a wandering bee, to whose curiosity a broken pane in the glass had discovered itself,…”
[Jonathan Swift: ”The Battle of the Books”]
When a contemporary dress dressed in white encounters dust, a brawl, that is, its own future, that all may seem, funny, yes, a thing of the past.
The viewer gets to tour the house of the old man, Andjust. The film reflects the twins of world literature, Gogol’s Plushkin (The Dead Souls), as well as Dickens ’Scrooge (The Christmas Carol).
Also included is the ugly, nasty lizard and its companions caused by the host’s war injury, but the mill building project on the edge of the village
with its radio-dressed activities, and the smoked claw received from the president make Andjust radiate.
Although grabbing and greedy thoughts color the picture, as you move deeper into things and, for example, a pair of woolen trousers that have been patched many times, into the room suddenly spreads warmth and simple, holy beauty.
The film Andjust is a rare, lush and cheeky fruit in the chaos of our pure era. Its nectar can cause a glutton, accustomed to the heights of cool touring, to hit its nose in a puddle of reflections in the power of a strange burst.
The form of the film is strange, but the woody experimental prop is as far away from it as a white couch is from a car repair oil well.
